Samsung

The Samsung Group is the largest group of companies (Jaebeol) in South Korea. The flagship of the group is Samsung Electronics, the world's largest DRAM, NAND flash memory, SSD, TV, refrigerator, smartphone manufacturer.
The name Samsung means "three stars" in Korean. The number three is associated with positive things by many Koreans. The company's founder, Lee Byung-chull, who was deeply influenced by Japan's economy and society, chose this name in the 1930s in the hope that the company would shine as bright, lofty and eternal as the already powerful Japanese corporations of the time Mitsubishi (“three diamonds”) and Mitsui Group (“three springs”).
After the death of the company's founder in 1987, the third son, Lee Kun-hee, took over as chairman of the group. Since he resigned from all posts as chairman due to a scandal in 2008, the Samsung Group has been managed by the chief executive officers of the individual companies.
